Metabolic Covariance Connectivity of Posterior Cingulate Cortex Associated with Depression Symptomatology Level in Healthy Young Adults

چکیده
Early detection in the development of a Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) could guide earlier clinical interventions. Although MDD can begin at younger age, most people have their first episode young adulthood. The underlying pathophysiological mechanisms relating to such an increased risk are not clear. posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), exhibiting high levels brain connectivity and metabolic activity, plays pivotal role pathological mechanism MDD. In current study, we used (F-18) fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) measure covariance PCC investigated its association with depression symptomatology evaluated by Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Inventory—Revised (CESD-R) among 27 healthy individuals aged between 18 23 years. A significant negative correlation has been observed CESD-R scale scores anterior cingulate, medial prefrontal cortex, inferior middle frontal gyrus, as well insula. Overall, our findings suggest that neural correlates depressive adults without formal diagnosis involve PCC. Our may potential implications early identification intervention developing depression.

متن کاملCingulate cortex functional connectivity increase predicts relapse of major depression
Introduction: Recent functional imaging studies suggest alterations in cortico-limbic circuit connectivity in depression. Moreover, these functional connectivity (fc) changes were found to correlate with symptom severity and normalised upon antidepressant treatment (1). The direction of these fc changes is however debated with one group showing increased default network connectivity and another...
متن کاملApplication of magnetic resonance spectroscopy for evaluating metabolic alteration in anterior cingulate cortex in Alzheimer's disease
Introduction: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia worldwide. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is often the prodromal stage to AD. Most patients with MCI harbor the pathologic changes of AD and demonstrate transition to AD at a rate of 10–15% per year. Accumulating evidence indicates that the asymmetry changes of left and right brain have happened in the early stage of A...
متن کاملAbnormal functional connectivity of the posterior cingulate cortex is associated with depressive symptoms in patients with Alzheimer’s disease
BACKGROUND Depressive symptoms are significant and very common psychiatric complications in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), which can aggravate the decline in social function. However, changes in the functional connectivity (FC) of the brain in AD patients with depressive symptoms (D-AD) remain unclear. OBJECTIVE To investigate whether any differences exist in the FC of the posterior ...
متن کاملHippocampal Atrophy Is Associated with Altered Hippocampus-Posterior Cingulate Cortex Connectivity in Mesial Temporal Lobe Epilepsy with Hippocampal Sclerosis.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Unilateral mesial temporal lobe epilepsy and hippocampal sclerosis have structural and functional abnormalities in the mesial temporal regions. To gain insight into the pathophysiology of the epileptic network in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis, we aimed to clarify the relationships between hippocampal atrophy and the altered connection between th...
